About Diagnostics

Diagnostics are short messages issued by Personal Taxprep to warn you of the presence of possible errors or special tax situations which could require you to make a correction or enter supplementary information. The diagnostics appear as a result of an error in data entry (for example, an invalid social insurance number) or an automatic calculation performed by Personal Taxprep.

Note: It is also possible to create diagnostics with the Filters and Diagnostics Wizard available in the Templates/Filters and Diagnostics view.

The diagnostics list generated by Personal Taxprep is dynamic; it is continually updated as you enter data in the active return.

To go directly to the cell which needs to be corrected, double-click a diagnostic with a symbol.

You are presented with information in the diagnostics pane: the type of diagnostic and the group that it belongs to, the jurisdiction of the return, the cell access indicator, and the message which describes the problem.

The diagnostics are ordered by group. Each group is presented in a separate table; the name of the group and the number of diagnostics are indicated on the tabs.

  • The Take Action tab displays the diagnostics issued by Personal Taxprep that have not been corrected or annotated to be ordered in the tab Reviewed or Ignored.
  • The My Diagnostics tab displays your customized diagnostics.
  • The All tab displays all of the diagnostics generated by Personal Taxprep for that return as well as your customized diagnostics.
